April 2022 End of Month Wrap Up
April was a wet, cold, dark month. Murky is probably the best one-word description. The rain is coming down in sheets outside my window right now and is not expected to let up for a few days. Again.
Work is, for English Paper Piecing at least, galloping along on my triangle quilt. I am over halfway done with it and it is starting to come together nicely with a different color palette than I normally use.
I finished a really nice and detailed cute jacket and two cardigans. The jacket is one of the more involved pieces of clothing I have made with all of the top stitching and sleeves that I hacked into something more aesthetically pleasing since every review I read of this pattern complained about overly large sleeves. Mine are definitely not.
I painted a canvas for the poem I wrote. I have yet to find a decent frame for it so that will have to be a goal for next month. Here is the poem:
I am from
balsam spruce and fields of timothy and clover,
cracked red clay and black bears eating corn
from the garden in the middle of the day on the
hottest day of summer.
I am from
the smell of cut hay as I run through a field with
a timber wolf nipping at my heels.
I am from
snow so deep we jump off the roof into it for fun
and spend our free time huddled around a hole
in the solid lake ice, pulling up perch all day.
I am from
creek swimming, crayfish catching, strawberry
picking, frogs singing, cows lowing, northern
lights, countless stars, spring floods, summer droughts,
autumn gales, winter blizzards, and air so sweet you
can never get enough in.
I am from
the shores of Lake Superior, the fields of Clover
Valley, the ruddy waters of Island Lake and
the quaking aspen of Pleasant Valley.
I am from
10,000 lakes to kayak, endless trails to hike and
bike, back roads to explore, woods to
snowshoe and places to camp.
I made a card testing markers I got from Goodwill in a big art supplies auction lot. It turned out cute for just being a sample sort of thing.
And finally, I spent a lot of time working on administrative things:
I got a new camera purchased with funds from my state grant and have started having little sessions to learn all about it.
I am nearly done with adding image descriptions to all of the images on my website to improve accessibility.
I created a Teachable school so I can sell my courses directly. Unfortunately, the iPad AND iCloud backup I had my courses saved on BOTH failed so I need to recreate my classes. I have all of the original files and script backed up on a memory card but this will still require editing them together because I now use a Samsung tablet. What a pain.
And finally, I'm still editing my organizing book.
